Music
Music has been the constant throughout my life. I’ve spent decades performing as a pianist and vocalist, from jazz clubs and cruise ships to concerts and private events, while also composing music for more than 100 television and film productions.
TheSailingpiano brings those worlds together. As I travel, the places I visit, the people I meet and the experiences along the way become part of the music I create. Some of what I share here will be finished recordings. Some will simply be ideas captured at a piano somewhere along the journey—the beginning of something that may eventually become much more.
Music From the Journey
Original Music, improvisations & ideas created along the way - some finished, others in a a state of evolution. The places and environments I find myself in directly influence my musical ideas.
Reflecting the rhythm of waves upon a shore, the ongoing pattern which slowly changes and evolves provided me with this musical adaptation.
IThe anchorages in the ICW can be stunning, remote and isolating. While the sun went down and the boat was anchored in quiet waters I came up with this musical moment.
Earlier Originals
Original compositions and imporvisations before THESAILINGPIANO journey began
During lockdown I streamed nightly piano performances. Each beginning with an original improv, this piece grew out of one of those spontaeous openings.
An unfinished melodic idea recorded in one take. After returning home and spending more time at the piano, this piece surfaced and is something I will continue to develop
Film & Television
For many years, a large part of my musical life was spent composing for film and television. I wrote music for more than 100 productions, from intimate piano cues to larger dramatic scores. Working to picture taught me not only how music can shape emotion, story and atmosphere, but how to take an idea from the first musical concept through arranging, production and ultimately to a finished master. That discipline still influences everything I write today.
