The Boat that Wasn't

I feel like I have been consumed by Yachtworld, forever browsing the listings, sometimes almost hourly. NEver make a fear based decision. It usually turns out to be a bad decision. The best decisions are rational decisions. My recent trip to Granada was not rational. I came across a Priviledge 51 at what seemed like a firelase price, the words highly motivated sellers beside the listing price of $200,000 jumped off the page. They claimed they did not have time to do a video walk through. They had people scheduled to view the boat the approaching weekend. I did not want to lose this boat to someone else so I figured I would have to beat everyone down there and be the first guy to show up at their dock.
There are no direct flights to Grenada. Booked a flight with a connection in trinidad with Caribbean airlines. Flight left at midnight. My friend brought me to the airport and I rewarded her with dinner I filled up with a lot of pasta and red wine hoping to give myself a food carb so I would pass out on the plane. The seat was so uncomfortable there was no chance of passing out. I arrived in Trinidad at 6am feeling like a controted sore pretzel. The next flight was just a bunny hop over to Grnada on a prop plane. I love these planes and love walking on the tarmac to board the plane with the hot caribbean sun hitting you in a beautiful warm embrace.
Upon landing in Granada I went stratight to the meeting point to greet the owners of the Priviledge 51 who would dinghy me out to their boat for a viewing. The taxi laboured up and down Granadas classic steep terrain finally dropping me off at a marina bar stratight out of a vacation magazine. MEt the owners who certainly presented a low brow, carfree liveaboard fashion style, aka borderline homeless appearance. I say this in jest as I find after you have been living for a boat for some length of time you become almost feral and carefree in your appearance which others may define as homeless.
